Repetitive Strain & Overuse Injuries

Repetitive Strain Awareness Day – 28th Feb 2025

Repetitive strain injuries (RSIs)s or overuse injuries refers to pain associated with muscles, tendons, nerves and joints that has been caused by performing a repeated task. RSIs can be caused by many different activities:

  1. working on a computer
  2. using tools
  3. sports training
  4. anything requiring repetitive movement.

Symptoms of RSIs include numbness, tenderness, swelling, throbbing, weakness, or a lack of mobility in regions like the wrists, hands, arms, elbows, neck, and shoulders. The most well known RSIs are:

  1. carpal tunnel syndrome
  2. tennis elbow
  3. golfer’s elbow
  4. rotator cuff injuries.

Chiropractic care can be a very effective treatment for RSIs by improving joint mobilisation and soft tissue techniques to relax tense, injured muscles. Following treatment with a program of rehabilitation exercises can
help prevent the injury from reoccurring.

Pain Management and

How Chiropractic Care can help.

Pain is referred to as either acute or chronic. Acute pain usually comes on suddenly and is caused by something specific. It is sharp in quality. Acute pain usually doesn’t last longer than six months. It goes away when there is no longer an underlying cause for the pain.

Chronic pain is pain that is ongoing and usually lasts longer than six months. This type of pain can continue even after the injury or illness that caused it has healed or gone away. Chronic pain is linked to conditions that include:

  1. Headache
  2. Arthritis
  3. Nerve pain
  4. Back pain
  5. Fibromyalgia

The use of chiropractic therapies such as joint mobilisation and soft tissue manipulation can be very effective at easing painful symptoms. This, coupled with a program of rehabilitation exercises can be very effective for pain management.
